DIY sausage arrives!

I must admit to feeling a bit sorry for myself yesterday, it being Sunday, and therefore, in my 'old' life, a day of slothful inactivity and probably over eating, which was not good for my health or the tonnage of my body. Living the life of a small farmer, however, has put paid to that type of lifestyle, and very occasionally I get ever so slightly regretful for those lazy, do nothing, type of days, not often, just when things are getting overwhelming. Not to worry. Would still never want to live that old life, not even for one second. It is just happens when there is a list a mile long of things to do, and the energy to do them has gone down the drain.

But when one has soldiered through, maybe ticked a couple of things off that list, then taken a pause to observe what has been achieved through the hours of that day, crikey but one does feel proud of one's self, which is far better than feeling guilty because of having wasted precious hours of one's life by being lazy. Oh I know that one needs rest, but that can do that during long winter evenings, unless one has a house to get renovated, and then the engine has to keep chugging.

And then there are the magic moments. We had one yesterday. Upon observing our first efforts at DIY sausage making, that's when we had the moment. Couldn't take a photo though because the camera batteries had run out of spunk, but take my word for it, we made a pile: 4 kgs, plus at least 36 patties of lamb sausage. And they didn't taste anything like the shop bought ones, but were firm and tasty and full of life. We can now put together a breakfast, or supper, of DIY sausage, DIY bacon, farm produced eggs, home grown tomatoes (when the few we have finally ripen), DIY bread, DIY butter, DIY jam and a glass of farm produced milk, followed by a slice or two of DIY cheese. Sunday turned out to be a very OK day.

Hope you had a magic moment or two during your Sunday,

Sending blessings to you,

Vx

Marvellous!
I feel proud of myself when I've made a half decent cake so I can only imagine how good it must feel to have accomplished all of that!

Jean, I don't have time to make a 'half decent cake' now, and just fuzz everything into a bowl all in one go! Doesn't taste the same though. But taking pride in what one sure does shine that halo sitting up top of one's head!

stunning effort! good on you. unfortunately now you will be forever ruined on store food.
;-)

i think we are all feeling that mad dash for harvest and end of summer doings. keep on keepin' on and remember that you will never get everything done so go ahead and take a rest.

Ticking one or two things off the list is a great motivator. Glad you had a better day!

That food sounds absolutely delicious -- but do you have time to eat? ;-) Your stamina and determination staggers belief... Can't help but hope that you have a lazy afternoon coming up soon though...

Impressive stuff Vera. I can just about boil an egg, but that's the limit of my culinary skills.

OhioFarmGirl, you are right...the more DIY food we eat the less we want to eat other food. Will take your advice about having a rest. Maybe this afternoon!

Jessica, lists are oh so important when one has loads of things to do. It is just remembering to look at the list which is a problem though!

The Broad, can feel a lazy afternoon coming up as well, which will probably be spent in bed!

Tommo, I am sure that your boiled eggs taste great.

John, thank you!

Horst, I expect you feel just as proud when you look at those lovely photos you do. Hope you had a good weekend.

Leon, it sure was a 'positive' type of Sunday!

I love that you made your own sausage! My family is Italian and my Pappa always made the family sausage recipe.
It is wonderful to hear of your adventures. Remember, though, that rest is important, too. Might be worthwhile to take a moment for yourself, you know...stop and smell the sausage. ;)

Hi Rachel, great idea!

Well done Vera. I made some sausages a few years back and they were so much better than the bought ones. Bet yours will be as well. I should make some more, but having to buy the meat somehow is not quite the same. Take care Diane

Diane, Lester speaks about the 'resting' sausages in the freezer frequently, and it is all I can do not to let him start eating them right away, but I would like to enjoy the feeling of having a store of sausages and patties before he starts demolishing them!
