Rain!!!!!

So what do you do when you hear the pitter patter of rain on the velux windows overhead
when you are trying to wake up to start the day.
Well you acknowledge the joyful thought that perhaps today might be a good day to stay indoors and do some sewing, that is what you do.
So then what do you do when your dearly beloved husband lurches into the house a while later in a bit of a mood because the farmer man who we ordered hay and straw from decided to deliver it today, in the rain, and was not really paying much attention to where he was putting the bales.
Well you get dressed, put wellies and rain mack on, and go have a look at what is happening, that is what you do.

And look at this whopper of a tractor!

.... and Lester now taking charge of where the bales are to be put....

....and Lester tidying up the bales once the farmer man and his fancy blue tractor had left.
It was raining very hard by now.
The bales of straw and hay were getting a thorough soaking because there was no time to cover them with tarpaulins to keep them dry. Rain and hay / straw are not a good mixture, not unless  you want nicely rotted down manure in a few months time, which the animals would not appreciate either eating or sleeping on.

..and just so it does not feel left out, here is our little tractor, tucked up and nicely dry...

..... and the two rottweiller girls, who have just been told off for playing 'let's hunt for mice' in the hay bales beside them, which has become their favourite pastime now that they can no longer amuse themselves by herding the chickens and geese hither and thither.

Despite the gung ho attitude of the farmer man, this was the only bale which suffered any damage.

And it elegantly fell apart when Lester tried to shift it, but fortunately it was a straw bale,

so we scooped the loose straw up and put it into the sheep and cow barns.

I am sure that the sheep and cows will thoroughly enjoy their new bedding.
A few sunny days forecasted ahead, which should give the bales time to dry out after the soaking they had today.
And saying 'bye for now'.
Vx

Our rain started about midnight, accompanied by some lightning. It really poured, and continued until about 10-ish the next morning. I'm pleased I covered all my wood! We may even have some Cepes in 10 days.

CRO MAGNON, it was good to get some rain, but would have preferred not to have been trying to hay and straw bales sorted out! Good luck with the cepes hunt!

Unfortunately, all of your photos, but one, have broken links! We had rain off and on most of the day yesterday. We have a big problem with water leaking through the bathroom ceiling, which my husband is now in the process of taking down. Jobs for next year already piling up!

The faces on those dogs...priceless!!

THE BROAD, oh dear, hope your husband managed to fix the leaky ceiling! Odd that not all the photos appeared....

DENISE, our two rottweillwer girls are the funniest pair! They still think they are puppies, even though they are huge, but they are the gentlest of dogs, useless watch dogs though, do not bark much, but will howl themselves silly if there is someone around they want to say hello to!

Hi Vera, yes, a frustrating time for the farmer to deliver. Guess he thought he should get it out of the field so maybe it is OK.
Love the playful nature of the rot ties. Ours would bark horribly then hide as soon as someone came through the door. She sounded fierce I must admit. She loved the water and being on our sailing boat but would only jump if we gave her permission..
Regards Janine

MINWKS, In the end we were glad he did deliver it for us, even though we were soaked! As for our rotties......they only sound fierce when they howl! One of them swims for sticks that Lester throws into the river, but the other one waits to grab the stick when her sister reaches dry land!

I don't like the farmer's attitude to deliver the hay on a rainy day. But that's what sometimes happens when we depend on others to deliver something , to fix things or to help in some way. We get disappointed. His blue tractor though is very cute.

LOL I wish rain had been rare and unexpected here this Summer. I think I heard rain hitting the windows and wood furnace flu every morning for like 2 months straight.

DUTA, that blue tractor was huge! But at least the straw and hay were delivered when the farmer said he would deliver them, even if it was raining!

PIONEER PREPPY, we could have done with some of your rain! Dry as anything here for weeks on end during the summer, and we are still only having a small drop of rain now and again.

We were delighted to hear rain but sadly we only had 4mm which did not make much difference at all to our garden!!! We have been dry since the first week in June!!! Have a good week Diane

DIANE, oh dear, I am sure it will rain soon!
